THE STORY
I left Hungary two years ago and built a life in Glasgow. Somewhere in the middle of that, I noticed everything had become an almost.
Almost there, almost settled, almost home. But never quite all the way there.
It’s a strange thing to describe to someone who hasn’t lived it. You’re not unhappy, exactly. You’ve built something real: work, people, a flat with your things in it. But there’s a part of you still somewhere else, without any obvious word for the gap.
As a psychologist, I spend my days helping people find language for things that are hard to name and I kept noticing this particular one going unnamed. Not necessarily a crisis, just a quiet, permanent in-between that almost everyone who’s moved seems to recognise the moment you describe it.
ALMST came out of wanting to make that visible.
I’ve always loved clothes that say something... the kind you choose on a particular morning because of what they mean, not just how they look. And I work with words for a living. I guess it was inevitable that these the two finally met: a line on a shirt, an illustration worth looking at twice, and a feeling that a stranger might recognise across a room.
The first piece says leaving was just the start, because that’s the part nobody warns you about. Leaving is the dramatic bit. What comes after is longer, quieter and much harder to explain.
Everything is made in small numbers. The blanks are organic cotton; the printing, embroidery and labelling happen in Glasgow; and every order is packed by my hands, with love and care.
A portion of every sale goes to mental health charities supporting people through difficult times, because the in-between is a real weight, and some people are carrying far more of it than a T-shirt can hold.
I’m still working this out, for what it’s worth. Still almost.
If that sounds familiar, you’re in good company.
